Bombay Stock Exchange
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) is the largest stock exchange in the world with regards to the number of companies listed. As of 2007, there were 4,800 companies listed with the Bombay Stock Exchange. Located in Mumbai, India, the Bombay Stock Exchange is also the oldest stock exchange in Asia. At the end of 2007, the Bombay Stock Exchange recorded 1.79 trillion US dollars in market capitalisation of the companies listed. This made the Bombay Stock Exchange the tenth largest stock exchange in the world, and the largest stock exchange in South Asia. Established in 1875, the Bombay Stock Exchange has grown into one of the most notable stock exchanges in the world.
One of the most notable features of the Bombay Stock Exchange is the BSE Broadcast. The Broadcast is composed of two devices. First is a large ticker on the wall of the BSE building. This ticker displays stock quotes released from the market. The second device is describes as the biggest video screen in South Asia. This screen streams video from NDTV Profit, which is the leading financial broadcast of New Delhi Television. This system was introduced in 2006. The Bombay Stock Exchange also introduced the BSE SENSEX (SENSitive indEX), which is popular in India and Asia.
