Stock Market Trading Is No Gamble

Monday February 23, 2009

The stock market can be a daunting place, but that doesn't mean you have to take unnecessary risks with your hard-earned money. You wouldn't walk into a casino and dump your life savings on the roulette wheel, so why take a chance on stock market trading?

Despite common reservations, there are vast differences between stock trading and gambling, and unlike when gambling, the informed investor will always be the big winner. That is not to say that the stock market is without its perils, but information and a strong investment strategy can quickly turn risk into reward.

Historically, the stock market has proven to deliver a significantly higher rate of return over most every alternative investment. Even smaller investments can reap healthy rewards when paired with the right stocks and strategy. Time and making the right choices are the only barriers to profit and reaching your personal goals.

The best part about investing in the stock market is that building your own fortune is largely within your power. You are (or should be) investing in good companies for a mutual benefit. When you gamble, you're doing the opposite, and it's not very often the house walks away the loser. You're taking a chance on poor odds, and worse still, the better your chance of winning, the less money you make. When played the right way, the stock market will give you much greater returns than any casino can offer.

Successful stock trading is all about gathering the right information and gathering as much of it as possible. A good trader follows the stock market news closely, but also knows the difference between short-term trends and the benefits of banking on successful and proven companies. Make the right choices, and healthy profits will be your future's forecast.

That said, if you're in the stock market to make a quick buck, then you may well be headed for disappointment. Likewise, if you have never set foot in a stock exchange, you would be wise to employ the services of a good broker to start your share portfolio on a promising note.

Online trading is a growing industry, and it is allowing increasing numbers of individuals the opportunity to make informed decisions about stock trading. The rules stay the same though, and that means avoiding speculation and looking at the long-term result.

Stock tips can be great, but don't be lured into a gamble here either. Just because someone shouts 'skyrocketing shares', does not mean they have done their research. The internet has certainly laid bare the world of stock trading, but be sure your information is coming from a reliable source.

Don't be fooled, there is risk in investing in the stock market just as there is risk involved in every aspect of life. The more time and information you have on companies you choose to invest in, the more that risk is minimised and the greater your chance for success. Unlike when gambling, the more solid your bet, the better your reward.

Leave the gambling to those after a quick buck, and make your windfalls on proper investing in the stock market.
