Keeping an eye on foreign stock markets can sometimes be helpful in planning how you will trade on the Australian Stock Exchange. Large markets such as that in the USA and the major European stock markets can have a massive effect on the Australian stock market.
Events on the New York Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange can have an incredibly beneficial or detrimental effect on the Australian market. It is important to watch more than just how these markets act in general, however. Many casual traders fail to pay attention to the specific businesses that they own stocks in. You should make sure to keep up to date on the activities of the businesses you have an interest in, making sure to keep track of relationships they may have with other companies. Thus, when watching foreign stock markets, you will know what to look for - any activity in businesses which may have an effect on your own shares.
